Boys hoops squad expects improvement

Determination, hard work and high expectations are going to keep the boys basketball team motivated this season. This season is going to be a fresh start for the team because they have lost all five starters from last year. The team went to the second round of sectionals last year and lost to Merrillville. This year the Indians expect to go much farther.
“We plan on going farther than sectionals this year,” junior Nikola Nichvoski said.
The starters for this season are Tristin Pearman, Tony Checky, Lawrence Jones, Allen Barrett and Miguel Negroni. These players are setting goals for their last seasons at PHS.
“My goal for this season is to just work harder then any of my previous seasons and finish high in the DAC,” Miguel Negroni said.
The team has the goal of returning to that Portage winning tradition.
“Our goal is to improve our standing in the DAC and work towards having a winning season,” head coach Rick Snodgrass said.
Snodgrass stated that he is looking forward to starting his 21st year as a varsity basketball coach and encourages our students to get out and support both the Indians. The first varsity game is at home on Nov. 24 against Highland.
